Lowell Sun: Local Resident Honored at State House

Lowell Sun: “State Rep. Simon Cataldo presented Donna Newcomb with a citation at the 2024 Commonwealth Heroines ceremony sponsored by the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women on June 14. During the ceremony, Newcomb was honored as a Commonwealth Heroine for her outstanding contributions in education, civic leadership and community service.

Newcomb has been a special education teacher at Lowell High School since 2006, where she also oversees the Compass Program, an after-school enrichment program for freshmen, and volunteers with the Outdoor Adventures Club. Prior to teaching at Lowell High School, Newcomb taught at Chelmsford’s Lighthouse School for 18 years.

“Donna’s dedicated and skillful commitment to the town of Chelmsford and the Greater Lowell area makes her the perfect addition to this year’s Commonwealth Heroines class,” Cataldo said. “Her tireless efforts and genuine compassion have touched countless lives of students and families in both Chelmsford and Lowell.”

Newcomb was joined at the event by her son, Jack, and friends to celebrate the honor. After the ceremony, the attendees enjoyed a reception in the Great Hall. All honorees were presented certificates by the commission.”
