RE: Statement on Best Western in Concord.
On Friday afternoon, I met with Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) staff members, officials from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), Senator Mike Barrett, Superintendent Laurie Hunter, and Town of Concord officials to discuss DHCD’s plans to use the Best Western in Concord as an emergency family shelter.

With shelter system at capacity, state turns to Concord hotel for emergency use
In late January, the town of Concord got a piece of news that quickly spread through the affluent community: The state had entered into an agreement with a local hotel, and would be setting up an emergency family shelter for homeless and migrant families in need of a place to stay.

CONCORD, Mass. — A woman who uses a wheelchair and her caretaker are among a group of long-term residents who were told to move out of a Concord motel to make room for people who are homeless. Paula Mullamphy and her roommate Denise Barrette told 25 Investigates the owner of the Best Western on Elm Street initially gave them three days to pack up and find another place to live.
Select Board meets with State Rep. Simon Cataldo
State Representative Simon Cataldo attended the Carlisle Select Board (SB) meeting on January 31 after holding public “office hours” at Town Hall earlier in the day. Cataldo said that it “is an honor to be representing Carlisle and its residents” and that one of his goals as a new Representative is to build relationships in the House so that when he talks about issues of importance to Carlisle, he will have the necessary support to push bills through the Legislature.

Like many of you, I recently learned that the Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) has entered an agreement to use up to 105 rooms at the Best Western on Elm Street in Concord as an emergency family shelter.
