Position Title: Legislative Aide, 14th Middlesex District, Office of State Representative Simon Cataldo
District Overview: The 14th Middlesex District is one of 160 Districts in the Massachusetts House of Representatives (“House”). Each district is comprised of approximately 43,000 residents. The 14th Middlesex includes parts of the Towns of Acton, Chelmsford, and Concord, and all of the Town of Carlisle. Position Overview: The Legislative Aide assists Representative Cataldo in the discharge of the Representative’s official duties by providing communication, legislative, and administrative support services.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
Draft proposed legislation and amendments;
Manage constituent inquiries and casework including creation/maintenance of database of constituent requests;
Support Representative Cataldo’s assigned committee and commission work, including but not limited to, hearing/meeting preparation;
Provide Representative Cataldo with basic administrative support including, but not limited to, answering phones and taking messages, greeting visitors, scheduling and other tasks as may be assigned;
Serve as liaison with Representative Cataldo’s constituents;
Serve as liaison with federal, local and other state government offices;
Research and draft responses to constituents, stakeholders and other interest groups on matters of interest;
Monitor and track legislation;
Prepare summaries of legislation and briefing materials;
Attend meetings and forums on behalf of Representative Cataldo; and
Supervise interns and coordinate with the House intern program.

Preferred Education and Work Experience:
Bachelor’s degree required, with a demonstrated record of excellent academic performance.
No particular industry/job experience is required for eligibility, but strong applicants will have a demonstrable record of strong performance in a rigorous professional environment.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time, minimum of 37.5 hour per week position. The work site will primarily be at the State House, but will also include visits to the district to meet with constituents and perform constituent services, plus occasional visits to other locations in Massachusetts for meetings or events. Remote work will be permissible on occasion, but this is primarily an in-person job. Days of work are typically Monday through Friday. Hours vary and may include evening and weekend work to support Representative Cataldo’s legislative or constituent activities.
Compensation: The starting annual salary for a Legislative Aide with no prior employment history with the House of Representatives is $56,180 (paid bi-weekly at $2,160.76). If a candidate has prior employment history with the House or is a current employee (not including internships), the salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
